7 Benefits of Bamboo Fabric

We’re no strangers to heat in Singapore and we have found ways to tackle this: with airy clothing and plenty of AC.

This however becomes a whole other issue when baby suffers from rashes and allergies made worse by our harsh weather. It’s more important than ever for us to find the best type of clothes to keep our little ones well-prepared to frolic comfortably in the sunny outdoors.

Introducing bamboo fabric – probably the best type of fabric for babies!

What is Bamboo Fabric?

Bamboo fabric, also known as ‘bamboo viscose’ or ‘bamboo rayon’, is made by extracting the fibres of bamboo pulp, which is then spun and combed into yarn and cloth.

Benefits of Bamboo Clothing for Babies

Bamboo fabric is known for its many wonderful qualities for sensitive baby skin. It has a similar softness to silk as it is naturally smoother with no sharp fibres that irritate the skin. The entire manufacturing process does not involve any chemical treatment. And most importantly, it keeps baby feeling cool in warm tropical weather!

1. Sweat Absorbant

Bamboo wicks away moisture to evaporate more efficiently than most other fabrics, keeping baby’s skin dry and comfortable throughout the day.

2. Antibacterial and Anti-fungal Properties

Bamboo’s natural antibacterial and anti-fungal properties prevents bacteria and odour from building, keeping baby’s skin smelling fresh and preventing fungal infections.

3. Cool and Breathable

Bamboo fibre is covered with micro-gaps that provide better ventilation to keep baby cool, for a better sleep through the night.

4. Anti-UV Protection

Bamboo fibre protects baby from the harsh Singapore sun by cutting out up to 98% of harmful UV rays. It is the only natural fibre used in fabrics that contains this unique UV-resistant properties.

5. Hypoallergenic

Natural bamboo does not cause allergic reactions, unlike wool and other natural fibres, making it suitable for sensitive baby skin.

6. Durable & Long-lasting

Bamboo shoots are a popular material for making furniture due to its durability. Bamboo fabric, made from the same bamboo fibres, retain these properties, resulting in a fabric that lasts through the wear and tears of baby’s growth.

7. Eco-friendly

Bamboo is one of the most renewable resource on the planet as it grows easily and abundantly in many parts of the world. Due to its antibacterial properties, it can be grown organically with no pesticides, and its fabric is 100% biodegradable.

How to Wash and Care for Bamboo Baby Clothes

Just like regular garments, bamboo clothes are easy to take care of and can be washed in your washing machine. For best maintenance, use a gentle cycle and lukewarm water. Refrain from using a drier as this may cause the clothing to loose its shape.
